Pakistan Day Celebrations Honor Sacrifices of Armed Forces, Emphasize Unity and Progress

Islamabad, March 23 — President Asif Ali Zardari paid tribute to Pakistan’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies during Pakistan Day celebrations on Sunday, praising their unwavering readiness to make sacrifices for the nation’s sovereignty. The day marks the adoption of the Lahore Resolution (1940), which laid the foundation for Pakistan’s creation, and the enactment of the country’s first constitution in 1956.

At a military parade held at Aiwan-i-Sadr, President Zardari emphasized the nation’s resilience amid geopolitical challenges. “Our armed forces and people stand united against external threats and terrorism,” he stated, referencing hostile actions by neighboring India and extremist groups. He underscored Pakistan’s capacity to counter modern warfare tactics and stressed the need to strengthen defense capabilities while revitalizing critical sectors like agriculture and technology.

Highlighting the role of youth, the president called for equipping the next generation with advanced education and skills to drive national progress. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful foreign relations and solidarity with Kashmiris, pledging continued advocacy for their right to self-determination at global forums.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed these sentiments, urging national unity to achieve economic prosperity and social justice. He linked the spirit of Pakistan Day to the values of Ramadan, emphasizing sacrifice and perseverance. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar honored the nation’s founders and praised overseas Pakistanis for their patriotism, while reaffirming support for Kashmir’s struggle.

Military Parade and Armed Forces’ Commitment
The ceremony in Islamabad featured a display of military strength, including a fly-past by Pakistan Air Force jets. Attendees included top government officials, military leaders, and diplomats. In a joint statement, the armed forces leadership reaffirmed their dedication to safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty and promoting global peace. They described March 23 as a milestone that “cemented Pakistan’s democratic ideals and Islamic principles,” vowing to defend the nation’s frontiers at all costs.

National Awards and Call to Action
President Zardari is set to confer national honors on 104 individuals, including foreigners, for their contributions to Pakistan’s development. Earlier, he urged citizens to rise above divisions and work collectively toward an inclusive, prosperous future. “Our strength lies in resilience and unity,” he said, calling for renewed efforts to tackle economic challenges and achieve sustainable growth.
